Watch this event LIVE here at 2 pm Arizona Time, 4 pm EST or watch live at WhiteHouse.gov/live!

On Tuesday, February 9th, the President and First Lady will host “In Performance at the White House: A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement” - a concert celebrating Black History Month.

The First Lady has invited 120 high school students from across the country to attend a “Music that Inspired the Movement” workshop as part of this special event. Students will come to learn about the continuing relevance of music from the Civil Rights Movement to today’s generation and its original impact in the 1960s. We invite you to submit your questions and watch the workshop live.

The workshop will be facilitated by Robert Santelli, the executive director of The GRAMMY Museum and legendary Motown singer Smokey Robinson with performances by John Legend, John Mellencamp, Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon and Toshi Reagon. Dr. Reagon was one of the original Freedom Singers in the 1960s, who traveled around the country carrying stories in song of local Civil Rights Movement campaigns to national audiences.

Within a single generation, the Web and digital media have remade nearly every aspect of modern culture, transforming work, learning and social interaction in ways that we are only beginning to understand. FRONTLINE producer Rachel Dretzin (“Growing Up Online”) teams up with one of the leading thinkers of the digital age, Douglas Rushkoff (“The Persuaders,” “Merchants of Cool”), to continue her exploration of life on the virtual frontier by focusing her lens on what it means to be human in an entirely new world — a digital world.

There's already lots of "buzz" about it on Twitter! Many educators have already viewed the full video found online here. If you want to follow the Twitter conversation or add your voice to it, use the hashtag #dig_nat Teachers are already making plans to share the video with their students this week!
